Gallaudet men's soccer wraps up Kentucky trip with tough loss to Spalding

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Gallaudet University men's soccer team wrapped up its Kentucky four-day trip here Sunday with a 2-1 loss to Spalding University in a non-conference game.

Gallaudet (0-2) scored its first goal of the 2018 season in the final minute of the game when junior Samer Abualya (Whitestone, N.Y.) scored his first collegiate goal at the 88:54 mark. Abualya's goal was assisted by sophomore Alton Markel (Buda, Texas).

The two teams played to a scoreless tie, 0-0, in the first half as the host Golden Eagles held a slim 5-4 edge in shots.

In the second half, Spalding (2-0) got on the scoreboard twice. 

Mirza Ugarak scored off an assist from Mani Bakari in the 57th minute as the host held a 1-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles found the back of the net, 18 minutes later, when Kornell Hillard fed Bakari (one goal, one assist) for the goal at the top of the right box.

Freshman goalie Shane Angel (Mechanicsville, Md.) made eight saves in the loss.

Gallaudet returns home and will host College of Saint Elizabeth (1-1) on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 2 p.m. in the home opener for the Bison. It will also mark GU's first North Eastern Athletic Conference game this season.
