Gallaudet competes at Bobcat Invitational

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Gallaudet University men's track and field team competed here Saturday at the Bobcat Invitational hosted by Frostburg State University. There were no team scores kept for this meet.

Gallaudet's 4x100 meter relay team finished third overall with a time of 45.93 seconds. GU's team consisted of sophomore Montray Roberts (Dallas, Texas), Toraneau Varice (Deerfield Beach, Fla.), junior John Isaacson (Clive, Iowa) and senior Alex Close (Tallhassee, Fla.).

Close finished third in the 400-meter dash as it was a neck-and-neck finish between Frostburg's Hossein Hakimi (52.17) and Close (52.51) in heat two. In the first heat, Catholic's Derek Chapey posted a time of 52.44 seconds.

Isaacson took third in the 400-meter hurdles as he crossed with a time of 59.97 seconds.

In the field events, freshman Jamal Garner (Jacksonville, Ill.) was fourth in the discus throw with a toss of 36.60 meters (120 feet, one inch). Garner was fifth in the high jump as he cleared 1.73 meters (five feet, eight inches). 


  • Varice was fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.55) while Roberts was 14th (24.99)
  • Isaacson was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles as he crossed the finish line in 18.13 seconds
  • Varice was seventh (11.68) in the 100-meter dash while Roberts was 12th (12.25)
  • Roberts was eighth in the long jump with a top jump of 5.51 meters (18 feet, one inch)
  • Freshman Otto Kingstedt (Stockholm, Sweden) was 11th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:37.18, over 22 seconds off the pace of the first-place time
  • Freshman Vicente Perez (Cicero, Ill.) was 16th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:50.59
  • Kingstedt was 20th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:26.13 as he was followed closely by Close in 22nd place (2:26.44), Perez in 24th (2:31.99) and junior Joshua Branscomb (Memphis, Tenn.) in 25th (2:47.64)
  • Kingstedt and Perez finished together in the 5,000 meter run in ninth (18:22.33) and 10th place (18:22.48), respectively

Gallaudet will travel to Grantham, Pa., to participate in the Messiah College Invitational on Saturday, April 9.
