GU draws tough task against No. 14 Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team pushed the nationally-ranked University of Mary Washington squad in the third and final set but fell here Wednesday night in straight sets to the Eagles in Rosner Arena 18-25, 11-25, 25-27.

Gallaudet (11-13) held a 13-8 advantage in the third set before No. 14 Mary Washington (21-1) battled back to regain the lead. GU would later tie the match at 21-21 and took brief one-point leads, including a 25-24 lead, before Mary Washington scored the final three points to end the match.

Freshman middle hitter Adele Daniels (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with nine kills and nine digs. Junior outside hitter Darriyan Thomas (Vallejo, Calif.) added four kills, six digs and three service aces in the loss.

Mary Washington was paced by Rachel Hendricks' 13 kills and Emma Olson's 44 assists, nine digs and four aces.


  • Junior setter Jasmine Jeter (Noblesville, Ind.) passed out 15 assists
  • Sophomore libero Raelyn Fuechtmann (South St. Paul, Minn.) made 12 digs
  • GU had six service aces
  • The Bison made seven team blocks
  • Sophomore Shua Clay (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) made three block solos and three block assists

Gallaudet returns home this weekend for a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) crossover and will face three teams in two days. The Bison will host Cazenovia College and Keuka College on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 4 and 6 p.m., respectively.
