Bison play inspired on AVCA Dig Pink night against Wooster

WASHINGTON - Gallaudet University played inspired here Wednesday night in the Field House against The College of Wooster in a non-conference match. The Bison wore special pink uniforms as part of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Dig Pink initiative and had its closes three-set match this season. In the end, Wooster (8-12) came away with the 3-0 win; 23-25, 20-25, 23-25.

Gallaudet (5-20) played close with the visiting Scots in every set and had chances, down the stretch, to get close and try and pull off a set win before Wooster closed out each set.

GU was led by junior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) who recorded a double-double (10 kills, 17 digs) and added one block solo and three block assists. Freshman setter Demi Bingham (Jefferson, Md.) passed out 21 assists, served up three aces and seven digs. Freshman Cassidy Perry (Frederick, Md.) added four kills, one block solo and one block assist. Sophomore Mia Upchurch (Austin, Texas) and freshman Jaelene Etkie (Austin, Texas) made 12 digs each. Freshman Sunita Schmidjorg (Austin, Texas) had eight kills and made her first block solo. Junior Brynn Schmidt (Bozeman, Mont.) helped out up front and made one block solo and two block assists.

Wooster was led by Katie Billetdeaux's 13 kills while Anna Medema recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs. Meghan Botsch passed out 21 assists.

UP NEXT
Gallaudet will head north to Lancaster, Pa., this weekend for two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) games on Saturday, Oct. 12. The Bison (2-2 NEAC) will go up against SUNY Poly (6-9, 2-1 NEAC) and SUNY Cobleskill (9-7, 1-3 NEAC) at noon and 2 p.m., respectively.
