Bison split first day of the Buttermaker Tournament

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The Gallaudet University women's volleyball team split its two Friday matches here at the Buttermaker Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College. The Bison defeated Cedar Crest College in four sets, 3-1 (25-18, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16) to begin the evening before they got swept by the host Mules, 3-0 (19-25, 21-25, 18-25).

Sophomore setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 51 assists in the opening match against the Falcons. Freshman Emily Wright (Auburn, Calif.) led the way with 15 kills followed by senior Elina Rubinshteyn (Austin, Texas) with 13 kills and freshman Anya Pothorski (Indianapolis, Ind.) with 11 kills. Senior Karita Lewis (Frederick, Md.) and junior Mia Upchurch (Austin, Texas) each had 19 digs.

In the Muhlenberg match, Lewis led the way with 13 kills while Giuntoli passed out 34 assists and Upchurch made 20 digs for the Bison (2-4).

  • GU served up nine service aces on the day

Gallaudet is back at it in the morning against University of Pittsburgh at Bradford at 10 a.m. on the second day of the Buttermaker Tournament. The Bison will then concluded its four-match weekend at noon against Neumann University.
